A functional, acoustic-focused renovation at our UK headquarters

The project

Autex Acoustics® recently sought to rejuvenate the upstairs office space of their UK headquarters in Elland, West Yorkshire. The project aimed to complement the downstairs transformation completed two years earlier by creating an environment that reflected their values of sustainability, design innovation, and superior acoustic performance. The renovation included the creation of three large offices, a boardroom, a communal break-out area, and a kitchen.

The challenge

The redesign required careful planning to deliver multifunctional spaces with improved spatial division, a bright, open atmosphere, and acoustic optimisation without extensive structural changes. In keeping with their commitment to operating sustainably, reusing the existing high-quality furniture and soft furnishings was also essential and a primary influence on the aesthetic direction of the design. Additionally, the boardroom demanded an acoustic environment capable of supporting frequent global meetings while doubling as a visually striking focal point for the office.

The solution

The renovation delivered functional and aesthetic improvements using Autex Acoustics’ extensive range of acoustic solutions and comprehensive colour and finish options. Colour blocking was employed throughout the wall and ceiling scheme to define spaces and create a unifying theme that seamlessly combined new design elements, furniture, and joinery.

Autex Acoustics installed its new adhesive-free Grid Ceiling Tiles in Frame and Linear to enhance the space’s acoustic performance and visual appeal. Designed with circularity in mind, Grid Ceiling Tiles provide superior sound control while working effortlessly with the existing ceiling grid. On the walls, Cube™ panels with custom Groove, Solid Colours, and Surface Finishes were strategically applied to achieve the desired balance of texture, sound absorption, and contemporary design.

The result

In the central office, a special addition to the design was a bespoke printed wall. Designed by Sochella Home, the watercolour artwork celebrates Autex Acoustics’ global presence. “The brief was to create a wall showcasing Autex’s global manufacturing locations. Landmarks from Auckland, Melbourne, the Gold Coast, Los Angeles, and, of course, West Yorkshire were uniquely drawn and expertly printed in-house on our 12 mm Cube in Pavilion,” explained Autex Acoustics UK & EU director, Dan Senior.

The completed renovation exemplifies Autex Acoustics’ vision of a workspace that balances design, employee health, and productivity by maximising natural light and creating a bright and welcoming atmosphere while maintaining privacy where needed. Each space was acoustically optimised, demonstrating how innovative acoustic solutions transform workspaces into inspiring, high-performing environments.

By reusing furniture, improving the division of space, and employing acoustic treatments to create a cohesive design connecting the old with the new, Autex Acoustics has developed a multifunctional office that is both practical and visually dynamic.
